If you use the Internet for business or personal reasons, chances are good that you don't want people watching your keystrokes. Many people have searched embarrassing and private questions on search engines or have a hobby that might be deemed uncool. You might be concerned that someone might be monitoring your ISP and tracking what you do on the web. Luckily, there are some really easy ways to keep any financial information and other private information safe when it is passed over the Internet.

1. Use HTTPS If a Site Offers It

If a site offers you the opportunity to go their website by typing https:// instead of http://, then you might want to consider using that instead. The reason why you want to use HTTPS is due to the fact that it will encrypt any data that might be transferred through the router. This is critical because even if you are being watched, the information that is being picked up through your ISP is unreadable. If you go on a site that does not offer HTTPS access, you can always install a plugin for your particular web browser that will essentially turn every website you visit into an HTTPS site and encrypt all of the information that you send.

2. Use a Web Service That Channels Your Information Through Virtual Tunnels

Another option is use a web service that is designed to take any information that you need to give to a website or someone else and send it through a series of virtual tunnels. This makes any information you send totally anonymous, which is helpful if you need to send financial information because someone watching you might be able to get your credit card number and might be able to decrypt it, but they won't know the name on the card and without the name, the information is useless.

3. Invest in a VPN

In order to get Internet access in the United States, you are going to need to go through an ISP. However, you can purchase a virtual private network that will help you go anonymous on the Internet and reduce the amount of information that your network naturally gives out to websites that you visit. This will make it easier for you to browse the Internet and stay secure.

For more information, talk to an internet service provider. They will be able to suggest different tools that you might want to try to further protect your security over your ISP.
